Legal Professional of the Year (LPY) award is open to all members in good standing whether they belong to a chapter or are at at-large member. Congratulations to Deborah Surls, CLP (NALS of Lansing) on winning the 2020-2021 LPY award.
Deborah Surls, CLP is a legal assistant at Oade, Stroud & Kleiman, P.C. in East Lansing. She has been at OSK for 14 years. Her legal career spans the last 42 years. Deborah has worked in Florida and Indiana as well. She has primarily worked in the area of civil litigation and general legal work, with some emphasis on appellate work.
Deborah joined NALS while working in Battle Creek in 2003. Deborah served on NALS of Calhoun County board and several committees. She has served NALS of Lansing board in almost every office and most committees. This year she served NALS of Lansing as parliamentarian and NALS of Michigan as Certification Chair during the 2020-2021 year. She has held her PLS/CLP certification from NALS since 2010 and recertified in 2015 and 2020.
Deborah has been married to Michael for 47 years and has three sons, a daughter-in-law, and two beautiful granddaughters.
