About us . . .
NALS of Northern Michigan had its beginnings in 1988.
The founding chapter name was Emmet-Charlevoix Legal Secretaries Association.
Ten members from
Petoskey and
Charlevoix formed the core group.
The first officers were: Donna L. Andrick, President; Sharon Palmateer, Vice President; Joan Forreider, Governor; Judith Schneider, Treasurer; and Denise Compton, Secretary. Although our chapter
is the farthest north (to date), we have managed to attend most of the board meetings in Lansing, and someone from our chapter has attended every
NALS of Michigan Annual
Meeting, beginning in 1988.
The chapter name changed to Emmet-Charlevoix Legal Support Professionals in the 1990's when we
first attempted to encompass the broad scope of our membership. Then, when the national association was renamed
NALS . . . the Association for legal professionals, we followed suit and became NALS of Northern Michigan.
Our membership area also now includes Cheboygan County.
We hold meetings on the
second Tuesday of each month (except July).

Our chapter is proud to have eleven of our former or present members over the years attain certification of
Certified Professional Paralegal, Certified
PLS, or Certified ALS.
